GPS: GOD’S POSITIONING SYSTEM; Do you know where you are?

When I got my driver’s license back in 1979, I never got into a car without having a map or clearly written instructions (that I had studied) as to where my destination was. There was no such thing as Mapquest or smartphones with built-in GPS. Life has changed. These days, we get into our cars with no worries of where we are going. We can easily pull up verbally guided instructions with a few taps on our phone. We can even text someone our predicted arrival time.

The other day I had a moment where my smart phone collided with ‘old school’ times. The roads leading up to my final destination had never been updated on the Global Positioning System (GPS). It’s simply took me to a place in the middle of farm fields, as if I would just figure it out from then on. I had no idea where to go. I do not have panic attacks, but I was actually feeling panic rise up within me. I had to use thinking skills that I had not needed in decades. I decided to start with prayer. “Holy Spirit, would you please guide me and show me the next thing to do.” In the end, I will admit that the smart phone came in real handy. I called the phone number for the place I was looking for and had someone guide me. This kind person asked me to look around and tell me what I saw. It wasn’t until I kept driving, and found a familiar landmark that the person recognized how to lead me from there.

I think it’s easy for this to happen in our life journey as well. We think we know where we are going, but we forget that God wants to journey alongside us. He is the light on our path. Learning to hear His still small voice is our inner GPS system. Accessing God is very simple, but not easy. The enemy plants a minefield of lies in our path that disrupts our journey and gets us on the wrong path, or gives us a narrative of lies saying that God is not for us or with us. The One who knows us best, loves us most. He knows where we are in our journey. He will never force us back onto the path He has for us, but if we want Him to lead us, He will. Jesus paid a high price to preserve our gift of free will; our personal choice.

Stewarding our journey, step-by-step is the key to keeping our soul healthy. Being guided by the light that God gives us is so safe and so sweet.

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

3 John 1:2 “I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, even as your soul prospers.”
